Happy Holidays!
We flew into Omaha on Saturday at 11:45 pm. When we left Phoenix it was somewhere in the 60s, and when we landed it was about 20 below zero with the wind chill. What the heck? I was scheduled to run 8 miles on Sunday. We awoke to -7 degrees, and 30 mph winds. Hmmm. This was not going to be fun. Dan and I went to our usual trail and headed out on a very intersting run. We ran a mile out, and then Dan convinced me we should turn off the trail (where we were fairly protected by trees) and run down this country road for a while. We made it to the 2.25 mile mark and then turned around..... straight into the freezing wind. It was miserable. I had icicles on my eyelashes. My baclava was wet with condensation from my breathing and immediately froze. I think I would have cried all the way back to the trail except I was afraid the tears would freeze in my eyes! Poor Dan. I said all sorts of not so nice things.... accusing him of trying to "haul me into the middle of nowhere and leave me for dead." I imagine it was similar to what those women yell at their husbands in the delivery room. But as I say to them... you got yourself into this. I was the one who dragged him out of bed to run. He was perfectly happy snuggled up at 10 am. I was the one to disrupt his slumber and tempt the fates in arctic weather. I had to suck it up and make it back to the car. Once we got back to the tree-lined trail I was much happier. We finished up with 4.5 miles for the day and 61 for the week. Not a record by any means... but I didn't see anyone else out on the trail that day! The next day I ran 5 miles on my sister's treadmill..... I don't care how cold it is tomorrow I will be back out on the trail! I hate the treadmill! Anyway, we had a nice cocktail party last night. I made sangria which turned out AWESOME and was the hit of the party! Tonight is pizza (mmmm papa murphys) and relaxation. Just woke up from a nap actually. Then tomorrow is the big feast for my family. My little sis and her beau are making dinner for about 11 of us. Should be fabulous! Happy Christmas to all and to all a goodnight!
