Mind over matter
Today is a beautiful day. Maybe I'm a little biased because I had a good run. I started out my usual sloggish pace and figured it would be another slow run. At about a mile and a half into the run my mind wandered back to Ironman Arizona in April. I started to think about how great it was that I got to see my sister and my friend Jess twice on every loop of the run. And they both finished within an hour of me so we had a lot of celebrating at the finish line during that hour. And I thought about my friend Analeta, who did every mile of training with me for my first Ironman in 2007. When we were waiting at the finish line, I sent a text message to her sister to see if she knew where Analeta was. She responded back that she was in her last mile coming through Tempe Beach Park. I was so proud to watch her come across the finish line of her first Ironman- all smiles. A huge accomplishment. Totally getting goose bumps reliving all of this! Anyway, I glanced down at my watch and I was running about 9:15! I ran the last four and half miles (10k total for the day)with a great pace. I progressively got faster with each mile and felt good doing it. It's amazing the power your mind has over your body. As soon as I started thinking positive thoughts, and visualizing race accomplishments, my speed naturally picked up. Anyway, now I'm off to the gym for a quick weight lift session followed by yoga class. Then I'm heading up to meet Analeta for a swim. Happy Tuesday!
