This morning marked my first commute to work on my bicycle since June. With the weather too warm for commuting (we don't have a shower at work), I've struggled to get in all 5 bike rides during the week. Now that it's a balmy 60 degrees in the morning I can bike to work without working up a sweat and get two hours out of the way in one day! Plus I actually get to sleep in until 6 am. Or I could sleep in, assuming I could sleep past 5:30. As it is, I was up at 5:30 and to work with plenty of time to stop for java on the way. Those water bottle cages are just perfect for holding a venti cup. I'm a little nervous for my ride home as it will actually be dark by the time I am half way home. Figured this out last night when...
... have you ever noticed that it's way scarier to run in the dark at night than in the dark in the morning? I am almost always running in the morning before the sun comes up. It never seems to bother me. The mornings are always quiet and I feel more aware of everything going on around me. Last night I ran after work. I hate doing this but I turned off my alarm yesterday morning and had an hour to kill in the evening so I got a quick 5 miles in. I was 2 miles down the canal when I realized I was going to get caught in the dark. At night, there's so much more noise with traffic, and the people who are loitering about are significantly more sketch than at 4 am. It worked in my favor as I ran a very fast pace for an "easy run". I was off the canal and on to the city streets before the final rays of sunlight disappeared behind the horizon. After my run, shower and a quick dinner we were off to see the Race Across the Sky movie which was awesome. Another one of those events that are inspiring... but no thank you!
Tomorrow is another early day with a run/ swim before work and then to packet pickup after work. SOMA is so not going to be pretty on Sunday... but I told myself if I got an entry (thanks to a very generous sponsor) I would race. So I found out 5 days ago that I will be racing on Sunday. Oh well... I can't win them all! (Ok, winning just one would be fantastic. I'd even settle for a run course PR. Fingers crossed!)
