I think it's just plain wrong that I need a 4 hour workout to feel like I've done something. Since my 70 mile bike ride on the Queen K 2 weeks ago, all of my workouts have been about an hour. And there have been more rest days than I've taken in the last 2 years. Today, I am back to serious training... hoping that I've not sabotaged my plans for racing IMAZ with all my resting.
Since the weather has finally turned gorgeous, I allowed myself to sleep in knowing it wouldn't be too hot for my long run. I hit the road just before 8 am for a 13 mile long run. The longest I've run since Wisconsin. Yikes! (In theory, I should be up to 18 by this point in my training for AZ). I knocked it out no problem. I was pretty proud of myself. At the 5 mile mark, I thought OK I can turn around here and add on if I feel up to it... or I can just HTFU and do the actual 12-15 that I set out to do this morning. So I HTFU'd, kept going, and got it done in good time. I jumped in the shower quick and then headed to the gym for the 11 am yoga class.
For some reason, since Wisconsin, I've been extremely tight in my hamstrings and hips. I can't seem to loosen it up. So I thought yoga would be a good start. And it was. I'm not cured by any means, but I feel a lot better. After yoga, I did my sprint swim. I love this time of year because most people who live here think it's too cold to swim outside. Seriously. It was 80 degrees today. And the pool is heated. Granted, when you first jump in it is a little chilly, but within 100 yards I was warmed up and by the end of my workout I actually felt too warm. But anyway, no one else will swim outside so I had the pool to myself which, as you know, I absolutely love. An hour and 3000 yards later I was done. 4 hours in the bag and the rest of the day to do as I please.
