Running in Circles

Today: 8 mile track workout.

Goal: 3 x 1600 repeats @ 6:56 or better

Results: 7:03, 6:47, 6:50

I started with a 2.5 mile warm up. In the dark. I like when it gets dark earlier in the evening but not so much being in the pitch black when I have to start my run. I wear a head lamp for the first mile cause it's on a trail with no lights. Once I hit the streets I have street lights to light my way. When I got to the track it was still dark and I couldn't see my watch. Through the first mile I kept fumbling with the buttons trying to find the one that lights up the background so I could see my splits. Didn't work. 7:03 is not too bad, I was sort of running what I thought felt like the right pace. Apparently, I need to work on that muscle memory thing a bit more. By the end of the second repeat I could see a little better and so was glad that I hit my goal. I was a pleasantly surprised as my legs felt like concrete. Did I do my recovery too fast? Am I just still fatigued from the strength workout? Going into the third repeat I was aiming for 6:45-6:50 to stay in the target range with my second. No trouble there. Legs felt tired but not quite as heavy. Cooled down with 1.5 miles home.

Tomorrow: Day off from running. Maybe strength workout. Probably will get up at 5:15 am, but the season premiere of CSI is tonight and I'll be staying up late to watch it so we'll see.
