Ironman training week 1

Training week one, or as I like to think of it... shock the system week. I swam 11,200 yards. I biked 162 miles. I ran 31 miles. I did 75 minutes of core work. And most importantly, I survived!

My body is definitely in shock. I have been getting up as early as 3:30 am. I have been in bed as early as 6:45 pm. I am trying to rest. Trying to eat well. I think my metabolism was jump started as I am suddenly starving all the time. In a perfect world, I wouldn't have to work and recovery could be my full time job. Bike. Nap. Swim. Nap. Run. Nap. Eat. Sleep. Etc. I swear I wouldn't get bored.

As it is, I'm back to working 4 days a week. It's nice to have a couple of extra days off to get stuff done and try to rest. I am pretty sure I watched a CSI marathon last Monday. First real day off in 6 months. Week 2 of training is off to a slow start. I took a much needed rest day on Monday and started this morning off with an hour easy bike followed by a run. Tonight I'm headed to the gym for core. Twelve weeks is going to fly by like nothing. I am beginning to get a little excited for Canada. And a little nervous. But mostly I look forward to the effort. I love the way I feel during Ironman. Giving my all, fatigued, tired, sweaty, smelling like salt and sunscreen, windburned. Its the feeling of being alive.
