Recovery

I'm totally enjoying my recovery but I think it's gone a bit too far. I'm actually able to sleep until 6:30 am now. Only I end up feeling like total hell cause I wake up at 5 am, lay in bed for 45 minutes before I fall asleep again and then the alarm is going off in another 45 minutes. Bad habit. It will be a rude awakening when I have to get up at 4:30 again next week. The first week post Ironman I swam 3 times (total of 4200 yards) and ran 4 miles (very slowly) and went to yoga once. This week so far I've swam 3500 yards, walked a mile and one hour of yoga (very hard workout yoga--- my arms are jello!).

Today as I was walking on the treadmill (I had time to kill before yoga), I was people watching. Cause what else do you do on the treadmill? I wanted to laugh out loud at this guy who was propped up on a fitness ball and was pseudo-crunching while texting. Seriously, finish your text and then get back to work. Or better yet, leave your f**ing phone in your locker. Duh. Maybe I'm the only one who views "gym time" as "me time". In other words, I'm not carrying my phone around waiting for an excuse to bail on my workout. It's my time to focus on me and burn some calories. Anyway, by now you've realized that I have a lot of pet peeves... so just add that one to the list. And here's another one. Trainers. What is the purpose of a personal trainer? To teach you new exercises. To kick your ass and motivate you. Make sure you have good form. There was a woman working with her trainer and both of them looked completely bored out of their minds and were just going through the motions. There was no way she was getting anything out of the workout. She wasn't even trying. And he sat there staring off into space counting reps. When I work with my trainer (who is the BEST trainer on the planet!!) I'm getting a great workout. She is constantly monitoring my form and motivating me, teaching me. My heart rate is up, my muscles are working. She's not just standing there (bored) blankly counting to ten. Whatever. I guess if you've got money to burn.

Nathan's Sprint Triathlon this weekend will kick off my last 8 weeks of training before IM AZ. I'm looking forward to getting out there and getting the heart rate up. Anything that lasts only an hour is all out.... and it's going to hurt. I think the next 2 months are going to fly by. With Hawaii in 2 weeks and then AZ 4 weeks after that. I'm excited for AZ to be done so I can focus on my marathon training for spring. Ok, I'm rambling. I'm just so excited it's finally fall and the racing season is in full swing. It's been a long summer.
