In 12 hours and 35 minutes my plane will depart. I'm ready. Today was spent doing all the last minute things that have to get done. Bank. Wax. Pedicure. Post office. Slicing peaches and strawberries to freeze. Shit I forgot the banner! Fabric store. And no, I am not the only person on the planet who chooses to get a pedicure before every big race. My friend, the Tiara Ditcher posted pics of her freshly painted toes today. It's a ritual. I have to have nice toes. What if I end up in the medical tent? Do they want to see gross, ugly feet with bruised nails that are falling off? No. They want flowers. And gemstones. Which is what I intend to provide. Well, actually, no. I'd rather not end up in medical. But just in case.
And so I will go to Wisconsin with my orange toes and my fresh bikini wax (another important pre-race ritual) and I will breathe in some fresh air and my skin will soak up the humidity. And it will be all good. I have a few tricks up my sleeve for race day. You can watch the action on www.ironmanlive.com. I'll be the one in bib #2283. But there will be pictures to capture every last bit of excitement should you miss it. Wish me luck.
