Is it too early to start packing?

It was a rare and beautiful morning for a run! When I stepped out the door in my sleepy haze at 4 am it was humid but the cool breeze from the SW was very refreshing. It rained a little bit during my seventh mile and remained dark much later than a few short weeks ago. The sun took it's time coming up to light the horizon during my tenth mile. I cruised my 15th and 16th miles at the fastest pace of the day and finished strong in a light sprinkle. Though my biggest week was last week (which included my longest bike and longest run for this training season), this weekend actually marks the end of official training. Tomorrow is my last official long ride and transition run. Beginning Monday I am tapering.

The first week of taper is sort of a taper in name only. Meaning I still have 14 workouts. My long ride is still 4 -4 1/2 hours. But mentally, I can start to take a break. I can sleep later if I need to. I can start to cut back on the mileage. And I can start to make that mental list of things that need to get done before the big day. Being an out of town race, one of the biggest on my list is getting E'ly ready and dropped off for pick-up by Tribike Transport. They pick her up a week and half ahead of race day so we're talking 10 days from now. I've already got her tune up scheduled at Focus Cyclery! Tribike will also transport my gear bag which means that it has to be packed and ready to roll. I am getting so excited! I really just want to start packing now, but then how would I bike tomorrow without my helmet?

3 weeks and counting...
